'In order for light to shine so brightly, darkness must be present.' - Francis Bacon
A typical feature of baroque art is the use of strong contrasts between light and shadow to achieve a sense of volume when depicting three-dimensional objects. This is a concert of remarkable variety, featuring music by Tromboncino, Monteverdi, Merula, Dowland and Campion.
